A man who is called upon for simple maintenance issues a woman may have. For example, unclogging her pipes, knocking wood, or laying pipe. The woman is typically single and not interested in a relationship, at least not with the man in question. The maintenance man usually does his job in the late evening and leaves when the "job" is complete. Maintenance man services are free of charge.

Ex. 1- The last time I checked the flight from Alitalia has arrived safely and the maintenance man has disembarked in Fort Greene Brooklyn.

He Gets a Date #2

I saw this Dilbert Comic on someone's Facebook Page and it fits in today's troubling economic time. :) I went out with my POF #2000 candidate who I have complained about incessantly over the past week about his consistent calling/texting/im'ing and have decided that I like him enough to grant him a date #2. I have scaled down my long list of wants and needs to shorten it to whether I can imagine going out with him again and I can. Sometimes nice, polite and stable are enough (for now).

The Secret Redefined...

This weekend I felt like me being single was on The View's hot topic list. From discussing IVF with my friends mom, to being asked by another friend's father why I wasn't married who then told me plainly that I am getting old and running out of time, to discussing relationships with my own mother today.

What surprised me most was one of my good friends husband told me that he believes that I have a boyfriend hidden somewhere. It is amazing to me how everyone cannot figure out why I am single like I am the hold up. :) I cannot wait for the time when I can pull out this "secret" boyfriend so that the discussions will then center around the economy, traveling or the housing market (not something i would like to discuss).

Texting and Calling is a dating no, no!

OK people... I got a text message today from POF Candidate #2000, who said, "Wow, I am so glad I got your cell phone so I can communicate with you during the day". This is on top of him having home number, 2 IM screen names and my email. This communication was then followed by a follow up phone call.

Maybe I should be pleased that he wants to talk to me but how many times can you reach out to someone without giving them a chance to call you back? That is the question...

It Begins with the Call...

A friend of mine told me that the reason for my lack of success at online dating is because I do not do the pre-screening. I know, I know... When we interview for jobs we always get pre-screened, when we go to a fancy place to eat, we always call ahead to find out if we can get a reservation. I am not sure why I thought that I can go on a date without calling ahead first and checking the person out.

Tonight, I decided to change all that and call POF Candidate #2000. The conversation started out well until he spent 33 minutes talking about work. (and through in that he just home with mom and dad) I actually said to him that I felt like I was interviewing him to come and work at my company. (We are in the same line of work) However, that is what we had in common so we left the conversation saying that we enjoyed it and that we will talk again. Maybe it will begin differently with that second call.

Time Sure Flies...

Time surely flies.... I looked up and boom I am no longer 31, still have no children and am still extremely single. In just a few short weeks, I am turning 34 and have yet to Beat the Odds. However, this year I have decided to take the world by storm. (Storm meaning a small sun shower because face it, I am always smiling)

You are probably wondering what i have been doing over the past 3 years and how I have progressed and I tell you I have no F-ing Idea. I have just been sitting here like a couch potato or more like an car potato since I am always out. I get that question from everyone, "Why are you still Single?". The answer to that is an astounding if I knew I would not be single. However, over the past few months I have been on several dates with different people. I have lowered all standards in dating and am just looking for people with a pulse and a J-O-B! Who knew how hard that would be... Follow me as I live that journey to Beating the Odds.

... and this is why I am still single. No one believed that I would be 31, single with no children. Reading this makes me see what has happened in society to black women. This is why I am posting here to try to beat the odds for black women.
